Q: MIDI / Using the PC to control the GT-3 / Using SYSEX (*.syx) files:
A: MIDI: Driving the GT-3 into the next experience!
Using MIDI to control the GT-3 unleashes the true power of the GT-3, editing patches in a breeze, accesing all other users' pacthes takes no time, saving your work for any unexpected errors or battery failure... All these require the PC/MIDI/GT-3
-What do I need to use MIDI?
1- A PC with MIDI port
2- A MIDI Cable
3- GT-3 MIDI Software
-How Can I set things up?
1-Connect your 15 pin (looks like the joystick port) to the MIDI port of your PC (also named Joystick port)
2- Connect the 2 rounded shields to your GT-3.. Make sure the IN goes to the OUT and the OUT goes to the IN (sounds weird? well, there is more coming)
3-Start the GT-3 MIDI program. I will explain the GT-3 Editor for now (I like it personally)
4-Click on File --> MIDI Devices --> Choose your ACIVE MIDI device!!! be sure you have made the right selection or it won't work.. There is no harm to just choose by luck.. Trial and error won't hurt.
5-In the main program window at your left, click on the "+" beside the "Preset Patches".. point with your mouse to any patch, click on it, if your GT-3 moves instantly to the patch, you are on the right track. If not, If not, get back to step 4 and choose other midi devices.
7- Start fooling around with the Patch: shut effects off and turn them on, raise and lower the volume. Get used to the new decent way of editing patches
8- Now get some user patches of the site, save them to any folder (better to be the Editor folder)
9-Click on File --> Open --> search for your downloaded patches --> open --> then click on the "+" beside the patch --> another patch name pops down --> point your mouse to it and press on it and left click.. You will notice a small pause and you will see the patch jumps to bank1-1 and the new name appears on the GT-3..
N.B: Do not save the patch on the 1-1 unless you are sure you no longer want it.. Or save it to another place.
Q: I have a SB Live! soundcard, will it work with the GT-3?
Yes, SB live! works.. either Value or Platinum.. Just choose the midi device in the GT-3 editor program and set it to SB UART in and out.
